2023 Subaru Forester

The 2023 Subaru Forester comes in six trim levels: the base trim, the midrange Premium, the sleek Sport, the off-road-oriented Wilderness, the luxury-touched Limited, and the top-of-the-line Touring. For additional slick exterior looks, the Sport gives you black painted wheels with black and orange accents, while the Wilderness model has special matte black badging on the hood. Colors include Autumn Green Metallic, Cascade Green, Crystal Black, Crimson Red Pearl, Sapphire Blue Pearl, Geyser Blue, Horizon Blue Pearl, Ice Silver Metallic, Magnetite Gray Metallic, Crystal White Pearl, and Brilliant Bronze Metallic.

There is only a single powertrain on the 2023 Subaru Forester that powers every trim level. This engine is a 2.5-liter Subaru Boxer inline four-cylinder that is capable of producing 182 horsepower and generating 176 pound-feet of torque. The powertrain is mated to a continuously variable transmission that provides smooth and seamless shifting between gears whenever you need it. Whether you are using the Forester for your daily commute or you're looking to go off-road and tear up the trails to your campground, it will get the job done.

All Subaru Forester vehicles are equipped with Subaru's Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive system, which automatically transfers power to whichever wheels need it the most at any given time. With standard AWD available even at the base level, the Forester stands head and shoulders above many of its closest competitors, which charge extra for AWD as an optional add-on. The Forester is also equipped with the X-MODE system, which simulates true four-wheel drive, while the enhanced X-MODE on the Wilderness trim gives you selectable terrain modes including snow, dirt, deep snow, and mud.

All of the controls on the dash are easy to reach, clearly labeled, and intuitive to use. The steering wheel includes lots of levers and buttons to allow you to control many of the functions right from the wheel, from phone calls to infotainment to the driver information display, all without needing to move your hands or search. There are a ton of adjustments in the driver's seat to find a great position. The Subaru infotainment system gives you full GPS navigation, and Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity. Extra available touches include heated seats and a premium Harman Kardon sound system.

All Foresters are equipped with the Subaru EyeSight safety package that gives you lane-departure warning and lane-keeping assistance, forward collision warning and mitigation with automatic emergency braking, and adaptive cruise control to maintain safe distances on the road. Available upgrades at higher trim levels include blind-spot warnings and rear cross-traffic alerts as well as full evasive steering to bolster the frontal crash mitigation system. At the top level, you get a standard driver monitoring system that will alert you if you become fatigued.
