Compare the Subaru Crosstrek to the Toyota C-HR near St. Louis

Which Subcompact Crossover Offers the Features You Need?

The 2019 Subaru Crosstrek or the 2019 Toyota C-HR?

The Subaru Crossover is well-known for its versatility and rugged design. Whether you're looking for a reliable commuter vehicle or an outdoorsy model that can handle tough driving conditions, the new Crosstrek does it all. Even though the new Crosstrek has a small frame, it still offers lots of room for dogs, luggage, and equipment.

The 2019 Toyota C-HR is a top competitor in the segment, but let's see how exactly it fairs against the features of the new 2019 Subaru Crosstrek.

Subaru Crosstrek vs. Toyota CH-R

Power & Performance

  • The new Crosstrek comes with a direct-injection 2.0-liter engine that produces 152 horsepower and 145 pound-feet of torque while the C-HR has a sequential MPI 2.0-liter engine that produces 144 horsepower and 139 pound-feet of torque.
  • The all-new Crosstrek Hybrid trim is the most efficient all-wheel drive plug-in hybrid in America. However, the new Toyota C-HR does not have a hybrid option.
  • If you want to have all-wheel drive for your daily driving then there isn't an available option for you on the Toyota C-HR. The new Crosstrek comes with standard Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive on every trim level for complete control and extra traction.
  • The Crosstrek can tow up to 1,500 pounds, but the Toyota C-HR is not equipped with towing capabilities.

Technology

  • Both the new Crosstrek and the new C-HR come with Apple CarPlay™ smartphone integration and Bluetooth® connectivity capabilities. However, the Crosstrek also comes with Android Auto™ so that all the Android users can connect as well.
  • The C-HR earned a 5-Star Overall Vehicle Score from the NHTSA for its advanced safety features. The Crosstrek earned the same score from the NHSTA and was chosen as a Top Safety Pick+ by the IIHS.
  • While both models come with Bluetooth®, only the Crosstrek comes with an onboard hands-free communications system.

Interior & Exterior

  • When it comes to passenger volume, the Crosstrek leaves the C-HR far behind. The Crosstrek has more room in the second row and offers a total of 100.0 cubic feet of passenger volume while the C-HR only offers 83.8 cubic feet.
  • The Crosstrek again stands out when you look at cargo space. The C-HR comes with a maximum of 36.4 cubic feet of cargo volume with the rear seats down while the Crosstrek delivers 55.3 cubic feet, allowing for significantly more room for luggage and equipment.
  • The Toyota C-HR does offer a pretty sleek exterior design, but the Crosstrek shows off its design by choosing to emphasize substance over style. The Crosstrek is designed with 8.7-inches of ground clearance to the C-HR's 5.9-inches. The Crosstrek also comes with standard roof rails.

Price

  • The C-HR does have a slightly lower starting price than the Crosstrek. However, if you consider that Crosstrek comes with both standard all-wheel drive and technology that the C-HR doesn't offer, the Crosstrek delivers more features for its price.

As you can tell, the new 2019 Crosstrek has more of the essential features that you need than the new 2019 Toyota C-HR. The Crosstrek outperforms the C-HR in performance, technology, and interior and exterior design. The only area where the C-HR has a slight upper hand is in price, which is understandable with it offering overall fewer features.

The Toyota C-HR has many impressive features, but when compared to the Subaru Crosstrek, it's not quite at the same level.
